We all want to land in a job that suits the skills we acquired; a workplace that will pay us with the salary we deserve; a company that will bestow abundant bonuses and benefits—a place where we can be fully productive at the same time will allow us to grow professionally.
But often, try as we might, we just can’t seem to find that elusive dream. And when we keep on insisting to do it alone, we lose the chance to be closer to that dream job. Ella, who has worked for a recruitment agency in Singapore, shared, “If you are in a rush and is quite puzzled with the direction you have to tread while looking for that job match, it wouldn’t hurt to trust employment agencies and let them find the right job and company for you.” Ella mentioned how a lot of Singapore recruitment agencies have helped both locals and expats to find work in the city over the years. James Bal through his article for coburgbanks.co.uk titled 6 Benefits of Using a (Good) Recruitment Agency wrote, “The number one reason why people use recruitment agencies? To save time. The recruitment process is certainly not a quick one and (especially with popular roles), recruiters can end up spending hours and getting nowhere. Recruitment agencies take away some of the hassle… (like) Screening CVs, Candidate communications, including follow up, General administrative duties, Initial interviews, Salary negotiations. And because this is what they do day-in, day-out, they can do it all quicker anyway – they know exactly what to look for, the questions to ask and can read any warning signs early on. It gives HR Managers (or whoever deals with recruitment) time to deal with more important things.” He further added, “It is a recruitment consultant’s job to keep up to date with the latest news, developments and current affairs in the industry they’re recruiting for. This is where niche agencies excel (it’s pretty impossible to keep up-to-date with every sector). Such insight will enable them to guide you through the entire process, advising you of any changes that might affect your process. For example, an agency will be able to help you with salary bench-marking. They’ll know what the ‘going rate’ is right now, whether there is a skills shortage or candidate surplus and how this might affect your chances of recruiting.” Engineer Alex Lopez, who also sought help from a recruit agency in Singapore in 2002, highly recommends checking into employment agencies, “I can’t imagine finding a job overseas have I not thought of finding a recruitment company to help me with the daunting job search back then. I was clueless about the process. I remember that the recruitment company even gave free career talks to job seekers, and we learned a lot from there. It was in fact easy on my part. All I had to do was complete all the requirements, polish my CV, provide the needed documents, and the employment agency took care of the rest. As companies invited me to a series of exams and interviews, the recruitment company was there to guide me through when I have questions. I wouldn’t have done it any other way.” Engineer Lopez is a chemical engineer now in Singapore.
