Hammertoes - This is a deformity of the toes that makes the toes look like they are bent even when the muscles of the toe are relaxed. One can take medications for anti-inflammatory such as ibuprofen to ease the pain and swelling or inflammation. Also, one can get a recommended special footwear from your local podiatry clinic. Bunions - This foot condition is a bump located at the joint of the biggest toe. This is also a progressive deformity, which can be incurred when the shoes are too small or too tight specially in the toe part. For treatment, one must wear a special footwear that can help on the foots proper posture, or get an orthotic foot support which can help the big toe avoid bending towards the next one. Many podiatry clinic here in Singapore also offer surgical bunion treatment. Calluses and corns - These are developed because of frequent rubbing on different parts of the feet which thickens the skin over the affected area. This may cause pain and normally occur due to shoes that does not fit right. This can be avoided by getting a comfortable pair of shoes and footwear. For the treatment, you can soak the foot in warm water for half an hour to soften the callus and then use an emery paper or a pumice stone to reduce the thickness of the skin. Your local podiatrist can also use a scalpel to trim the callus and corn down. Most of foot problems that many people experience can be avoided by getting a comfortable pair of shoes. So we must not sacrifice our feet health just to wear those fashionable shoes that can affect or damage our feet. After all, prevention is always better than cure.
