Beauty is a commodity. Well, even if that does not sound right, it is easy enough to agree that the pursuit of beauty can be very costly. But what is interesting it that a milieu ago, only the rick can afford to be beautiful, as popular belief has it. Today however, beauty is a commodified item that can be bought by an average income earner. Beauty products, treatments, cosmetics, pills and other medications are now widely affordable and readily available for the ordinary consumer. Technology and scientific breakthroughs has a lot to do with it.
And if vanity has become cheaper and more accessible, this is clearly apparent in the various cosmetic procedures that have now become almost common services in saloons and healthcare centers. Liposuction, skin toning, wrinkle and warts removal can easily be had at very little cost and time not to mention with very little risks, limited side-effects and short recovery time. Just a few years ago for instance, plastic surgery was not even common among the elite or upper members of the social strata particularly in Asia and many developing countries. Today however, cosmetic surgery has become a practical option for almost anybody. Popularity of Eye Surgery Among the many cosmetic surgery that has grown in popularity is the eyelid surgery. In Singapore, eye bag removal, is the most common facial cosmetic surgery. On reason for this popularity has to do with the fact that the eyes is an important element of being beautiful. In any society, culture or period of history, the eyes has been considered a central symbol and standard of desirability. And of courses too, the eyes is one of the most easily visible and therefore noticeable feature of the face and body. Understandably, eye bags and other blemishes are visually distracting and therefore take away form a person’s over-all attractiveness. Technically, these eye bags, are mild swelling or puffiness under the eyes that naturally happens as a person ages. As people grow old, tissues around the eyes, including some of the muscles supporting the eyelids, weaken and the fat that helps support the eyes move into the lower eyelids causing the lids to appear swollen or puffy. Eyebags are therefore signs of ageing and is therefore generally negative. It also appears blackish which makes it all the more undesirable. Eye bag removal surgery, technically called lower blepharoplasty or eye lift surgery, is a series of procedures that reduces bagginess from lower eyelids to improve the appearance of a person’s eyes and take away signs of ageing. More sophisticated eye bag removal surgery in Singapore also smoothens crow’s feet, those wrinkles around the eyes and generally makes patients look younger. Eye Surgery Risks and Procedures In Singapore, the most common eye bag removal procedure is the traditional lower blepharoplasty technique which involves making incisions just beneath the eyelashes, removal of about 2 millimetres of the skin and exaction of fats from the lower lid so that the area doesn’t look too sunken. Another common invasive method, canthopexy, is simpler eye bag removal since it only involves tightening of the lower lid and elevating its position by ‘stitching’ the muscles on the lower lid to a higher position on a bony area. However, this method merely prevents the lid from sagging as opposed to actually removing skin. Due to various scientific breakthroughs and technological advancements in Singapore, there are now non-invasive eye bag removal methods available in the country. The pinch eye bag removal involves extracting fat through the inside of the eyelid and then removing a ‘pinch’ of skin from the area and does not involve cutting deeper into tissues or extracting muscles. Meanwhile laser blepharoplasty makes use of laser technology to remove eye bags which non-evasive and scarless procedure. However, this non-invasive procedure involves longer healing time.
